Carla Newell

Carla Newell is the Chief Legal Officer and Chief Risk Officer at Ancestry and an Advisor of Berkeley SkyDeck. She joined TCV in February 2000. Carla has been working with technology companies, venture capitalists and investment banks in the Silicon Valley for the past 24 years. At TCV, Carla is responsible for investor relations, deal structuring and execution, partnership matters, and other matters. Before joining TCV, Carla was a partner at Gunderson Dettmer, a leading technology-focused law firm. At Gunderson Dettmer, she advised emerging growth companies and investors on a wide range of legal and business issues and structured a variety of financing and strategic transactions and sat on the boards of directors of several early stage technology companies. Previously, Carla was a partner with the Silicon Valley-based office of Gray Cary Ware & Freidenrich. Carla received a B.A., cum laude, in Political Science from the University of Chicago and a J.D. from the University of Michigan.
