In 2008, Scott founded the investment firm Westland Ventures, which provides capital and strategic advice for emerging growth companies. Scott has invested in a broad assortment of young companies, including New Media Strategies (acquired by Meredith Corp.), Cinchcast, Mobeam, Navitas Solutions, Narragansett Brewing, Zhena’s Gypsy Tea (where he serves as Chairman), and The Bank of Princeton (where he has served as Chairman of the Advisory Board). He is also the founder of Genius Country, an online magazine that profiles and celebrates innovators and innovation in the Princeton area. Previous to founding Westland Ventures, Scott was a senior executive in the financial services industry. From 1985 to 1998, he worked for Morgan Stanley. He became a Managing Director at age 32 and ran the firm’s Equity Capital Markets Division. In this position, Scott was structuring and managing equity capital-raising transactions for U.S. corporations. In 1998, Scott left Morgan Stanley to build, in succession, two successful investment firms: Midtown Research Group and Copper Arch Capital. After a decade of managing capital for endowments and foundations, he closed his billion dollar fund in November 2007, a few months before the global stock markets collapsed.
