Mike Kalogris co-founded Aretê Capital Partners with Eva Sirinek in April 2008. Aretê Capital Partners is a private investment company seeking out investment opportunities and ventures that provide an improved quality of life and opportunities for the people, communities, and environments they impact. Prior to co-founding Aretê, Mr. Kalogris was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of SunCom Wireless, a company he also founded. Mr. Kalogris led the company's development, establishing SunCom Wireless as the first member of the AT&T Wireless Services Inc. network of affiliates as well as one of the leading wireless services carriers in the Southeast. Under his leadership, SunCom Wireless set industry-leading standards for network performance, customer service and customer retention, leading to consistent strong growth in subscribers and revenue, and earning a reputation as one of the fastest-growing and best-managed wireless companies in the country. In early 2008 SunCom Wireless merged with T-Mobile USA in a transaction valued at $2.4 billion for SunCom shareholders. Mr. Kalogris has consistently distinguished himself as a leader in the highly competitive wireless industry since 1988. He previously was the Chairman of Triton Cellular Partners, L.P. which specialized in acquiring and operating rural cellular properties. The company's assets were sold in 2000 for $1.24 billion. Mr. Kalogris served earlier as President and Chief Executive Officer of Horizon Cellular Group, which became the fifth-largest independent cellular company in the United States, and was sold for approximately $575 million. Prior to joining Horizon, Mr. Kalogris served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Metrophone, a cellular carrier in Philadelphia, the nation's fourth-largest market. Kalogris has been a member of the board of directors of Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association (CTIA) since 1990 and has held many offices, including serving as its Chairman. Prior to joining the wireless industry Mr. Kalogris spent 17 years at the IBM Corporation. During that time he held positions in sales, marketing, product development and corporate finance. Mr. Kalogris was also a member of the business team that announced the original IBM personal computer. He received a B.S. in economics and secondary education from the University of Maryland and an M.S. in business policy from Columbia University.
