Daryl Katz is a Canadian businessman and generous philanthropist. Trained as an attorney, Daryl has distinguished himself as an entrepreneur, industry leader, and developer. He established the second largest amalgamated pharmaceutical business in Canada and built a leading privately-owned real estate development and proprietary company. Daryl is also the owner of the Edmonton Oilers, a longstanding legacy franchise within the NHL. In 2014, Daryl spearheaded a prescient and strategic collaboration with the City of Edmonton to develop and operate Rogers Place, the prized sports and entertainment venue in the city. Through Daryl’s vision, Rogers Place became part of the ICE District, an internationally recognized mixed-use real estate developments for sports and entertainment. Today, the majority of Daryl Katz’s businesses are part of OEG Inc., a premier North American outfit in the fields of sports and entertainment, retail cannabis, hospitality and real estate. Daryl was born and raised in Edmonton and has committed his professional endeavors to enhancing the city in a variety of ways. He earned a law degree from the University of Alberta Law School and then set out on his creative and innovative journey. Daryl is also determined to use his success and business acumen to give back to the community at large. He has given magnanimously to a variety of causes focusing on academic enrichment, disadvantaged youth, and health care. He and his wife, Renée Gouin- also an Edmonton native- have two adult children. For six years (between 2007-2016) Daryl served as a director on the Board of Alberta Investment Management Co (AIMCO), a position to which he was appointed by the Province of Alberta.
