Harshul Sanghi founded American Express Ventures in 2011 to accelerate the digital transformation of American Express by investing in and partnering with innovative start-up companies. To date, Amex Ventures has invested in 75+ companies and has offices in New York, San Francisco, Boston and Tel Aviv. As the Global Head of Amex Ventures, Harshul has led investments in Better.com, Bill.com, Boom Supersonic, Boxed, Instacart, Learnvest, FalconX, Finix, Next Insurance, Plaid, Stripe, Toast, and Turo, among others, and is actively involved on the boards of multiple portfolio companies. The team has seen 15 exits including BigCommerce (IPO), Bill.com (IPO), iZettle (acquired by PayPal), LearnVest (acquired by Northwestern Mutual), among others. American Express has also acquired two Amex Ventures portfolio companies: InAuth and Mezi. Harshul is strongly committed to supporting entrepreneurs and start-ups that bring together diverse perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences. Under his leadership, Amex Ventures has launched partnerships with Black Women Talk Tech and Black Men Talk Tech. Harshul is also an active voice in Amex’s broader inclusion and diversity initiatives. Harshul has over 30 years of operating experience and has consistently been ranked as a top Global Corporate Venture Capitalist by Global Corporate Venturing Magazine. Prior to joining American Express, Harshul was a Managing Director at Motorola Ventures, the company’s corporate venture capital arm and prior to that, ran the US Set Top Box business unit at Philips, that launched the first DirecTV-TiVo DVR. He has also successfully founded and been involved with multiple startups during his entrepreneurial career. Harshul has a bachelor's degree in Computer Science from the University of Oregon and an MBA from the International Institute for Management Development (IMD) in Switzerland.
