Edward Schmidt

Edward Schmidt joined Two Sigma in October 2001, and has subsequently established and led a number of successful and innovative global research efforts for the company. Edward began his career in 1994 as a co-founder of Hungary’s first commercial Internet provider and served as managing director until the business was acquired by Matáv in 1996. Later that year, Edward joined D. E. Shaw & Co. in London, where he directed research into new international trading strategies before moving to the firm’s New York office in 1998. As vice president of proprietary trading, Edward pioneered D. E. Shaw’s entry into the trading of M&A activity, forming and managing a highly regarded quantitative risk arbitrage business. Edward returned to the technology field in 2000 as an angel investor and director of business development for Vindigo, an early and successful provider of location services for mobile devices. Edward graduated from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor with a dual degree in Honors Mathematics and English Literature.
