Dowson Tong

Dowson Tong joined Tencent in 2005 and currently serves as Senior Executive Vice President of Tencent and CEO of the Cloud and Smart Industries Group (CSIG). He also plays a key leadership role on the Tencent Technology Committee and the company’s Advertising and Marketing Services. Since 2018, Tong has led CSIG along Tencent’s Industrial Internet strategic development journey, spearheading innovation across cloud computing, AI, and data platforms. Under his leadership, CSIG has driven digital transformation across industries from finance, manufacturing, automotive, and healthcare to education and agriculture. He has overseen the launch of flagship products, like Tencent Meeting, that now serve millions of users in more than 220 countries and regions. His portfolio expanded in 2025 to include the strategic development of the Tencent Yuanbao AI service, QQ Browser, Sogou Input Method, and Ima AI Knowledge Assistant. This paves the way to a new generation of products built for the era of large AI models, serving the evolving needs of both users and enterprises. Earlier in his career, Tong served as President of Tencent’s Social Network Group, where he led the strategic development of QQ and other core social networking platforms, value-added services, and open platforms. His thought leadership drove several key product milestones, including the launch of QQ Show, and he played a pivotal role in QQ’s successful transition from PC to mobile. During this transformative period, Tong spearheaded the development of new business lines including Tencent Cloud and the Tencent Advertising Platform (Guangdiantong), a pioneering, performance-driven advertising solution. Tong also played an instrumental role in advancing Tencent’s content licensing efforts in the music industry, guiding Tencent Music Entertainment Group to a successful initial public offering (IPO) in December 2018. Tong has earned multiple industry accolades, including being named a “2022 Technology Leader in the Greater Bay Area” by the 21st Century Business Herald, “2021 Business Innovation Leader” by Jiemian News, and earned a spot among the “Top 50 Best Professional Managers of Chinese Listed Companies” in 2020.
