Prof. Mahesh Choolani

Assoc Prof Choolani is currently Senior Consultant, Department of O&G at NUH and Associate Professor at NUS Medicine. Assoc Prof Choolani is well established in the research and education arena at both institution and national level. He joined the department in 1997 and has been an integral part of the institution. In particular, as Co-chairman of the NUS Leadership in Academic Medicine Programme (Clinician Scientist) from 2005 to 2009, he set up the Clinician Scientist Unit in NUS Medicine with the aim to encourage younger clinicians to embark on a Clinician-Scientist career. He also held key appointment as Chairperson of Teaching Faculty of the NHG-NUS Clinician Leadership in Research Programme. A/Prof Mahesh completed his PhD doctoral thesis on non-invasive prenatal diagnosis at Imperial College, London, UK. His principal areas of reseach are non-invasive prenatal diagnosis, fetal mesenchymal stem cells for intrauterine fetal therapy and early detection of epithelial ovarian cancer. He was awarded the NMRC Clinician Scientist Award to continue his research in the prenatal diagnosis field.
