Zhi Yang founded BVCF in 2005. He has over 16 years of China and U.S. life sciences investment experience, with a total of over 20 years in the life sciences industry as a private equity investor, venture capital investor, senior executive, entrepreneur, and scientific inventor. As private equity and venture capital investor, he has built portfolios of 25 companies, with 8 exits (4 IPO, 4 acquisitions). As entrepreneur, he co-founded 7 companies, 6 of which continue to conduct business and grow. As scientist, he was the principal inventor of more than 10 U.S. and international patents, which have been documented to have earned MNC’s over $250 million. He was a senior fellow and faculty member at Rockefeller University and is now an advisor to the China Health and Medical Development Foundation, under China’s Ministry of Health. Yang earned his PhD in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry, as well as an M.A. in Cellular and Developmental Biology, both from Harvard University. As a fellow of CUSBEA’s first class, the first group of mainland Chinese biology scholars selected to be brought to the U.S. after China opened its doors in 1979. From 1982-1989, the CUSBEA program, selected 422 of China’s brightest scholars and placed them in top U.S. universities for biology study. Today, as when they left China, the CUSBEA Fellows are respected as a pioneering and intellectually elite force for progress in China’s life sciences. Yang is currently an advisor to the China Health and Medical Development Foundation, under China’s Ministry of Health.
