Philipp Handel is an early-stage investor at General Catalyst, a venture capital firm that partners with founders from seed through growth stages and beyond to build companies that withstand the test of time. At GC, Philipp mainly invests in enterprise companies and along GC's global resilience thesis, which aims at modernizing our defense, industrial and energy sectors. He is involved in GC investments Helsing, Fever, and several unannounced companies. Before becoming an investor at La Famiglia, where he was involved in investments such as Deel, SoSafe, and Orbem, he was a researcher and management consultant. These experiences give him a strong understanding of both the development of frontier technologies and their adoption in large enterprises. As a management consultant at McKinsey & Company, he focused on projects in venture building and TMT, supporting clients during the conception and scale-up of technology businesses. He co-authored McKinsey's report on the European startup ecosystem, which was also published by the World Economic Forum. Before that, he conducted research on human–machine hybrid intelligence and AI systems at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He studied computer science and management at the MIT, the Technical University of Munich, HEC Paris, and École Polytechnique. When he is not exploring new technologies or countries, you'll find Philipp in the Bavarian Alps skiing or hiking.
