Ron has been focused on major macro trends since the mid-1990's when he began investing in some of the earliest companies focused on the Internet. In 1999, he moved to Tokyo to concentrate on the opportunity provided by the Asian Financial Crisis. Ron established the Japan office for Colony Capital, a global private equity group that has over US$50 billion in assets. As President of Colony Japan, Ron oversaw the acquisition, management and disposition of corporate, non-performing loan and property transactions. While at Colony, Ron represented the firm on the board of Aozora Bank Ltd. In 2004, Ron foresaw the makings of a credit crisis and led the investment in and turnaround of North America's largest mortgage default communications company, The Walz Group. The Walz Group was ranked #45 on the Inc. 5000 list (2008) and was sold to LenderLive. In advance of the largest macro opportunity of our lifetime - the twin crises in energy and the environment - Ron co-founded and ran Greenlots, one of the largest global charging networks for electric vehicles which in 2019 was sold to Royal Dutch Shell. Ron was also a co-founder of Annex Power, a major clean energy group in Southeast Asia that help design and build over 130 megawatts of large-scale clean energy projects. Ron graduated with honors from the Haas School of Business at Berkeley where he started the Credit Union for Berkeley Students (CUBS).
