Roy Gunter is a Partner at Mobility Ventures responsible for managing the firm's U.K. activities. He has over 25 years in the mobile, internet and tech industries and has been involved in a number of industry enabling innovations including launching a number of world’s first products and services. Roy’s interest in mobile payment dates back to the 1990s with his integral roles in establishing the Smart Card Alliance and launching arguably the world’s first mobile payment service in 1997. In his current position at Mobility Ventures he is responsible for managing Mobility Ventures' UK operations and backing the disruptive companies of tomorrow. Roy is a successful entrepreneur, having helped to start and sell a number of companies including Qflicks (now Lovefilm) and JetCell Inc. (sold to Cisco Systems) the inventor of wireless offloading/femtocell. Roy also has a solid record of building multimillion dollar operations in the U.S. and Europe from venture backed start-ups to running large multinational corporations across the mobile value chain. As a senior executive of global corporations he was the driving force in launching and guiding companies including Nokia Mobile Phones Data Division and Siemens Mobile Networks into leading providers in the U.S., as well as starting and building Pacific Bell's Mobile (now AT&T) into the dominant mobile operator in California & Nevada. Roy also serves on the boards of several start-ups, helping direct the companies from seed to eventual market launch
