Dr. Ralph Snyderman, MD, is a distinguished healthcare leader and visionary, holding the titles of Chancellor Emeritus at Duke University, James B. Duke Professor of Medicine, and Executive Director of the Duke Center for Personalized Health Care. Widely recognized as the "father of personalized medicine" by the Association of American Medical Colleges, Dr. Snyderman has significantly shaped the landscape of healthcare. A pioneer in envisioning a paradigm shift, Dr. Snyderman emphasized the importance of moving healthcare from a focus on treating disease events to embracing personalized, predictive, preventative, and patient-centered care. His innovative and integrative approaches to care delivery prioritize the individual's holistic health rather than merely addressing specific diseases. During his tenure as Chancellor for Health Affairs and Dean of the Duke University School of Medicine from 1989 to 2004, Dr. Snyderman transformed the institution into a global hub of healthcare innovation. Under his leadership, the Duke University Health System emerged as one of the first integrated academic health systems, with Dr. Snyderman serving as its inaugural President and CEO. Notably, he fostered the creation of the Duke Clinical Research Institute, the world's largest academic clinical research organization, facilitating the translation of research discoveries into new models of care delivery. Currently, as the Executive Director of the Duke Center for Personalized Health, Dr. Snyderman continues to focus on pioneering innovative approaches to care delivery. A distinguished member of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences and the National Academy of Medicine, Dr. Snyderman's extensive bibliography includes over 400 manuscripts and several influential books, including "A Chancellor's Tale: Transforming Academic Medicine." Originally from Brooklyn, N.Y., he earned his bachelor’s degree from Washington College in Chestertown, Md., in 1961, and his medical degree from the State University of New York-Downstate Medical Center in 1965.
