Turner was born in Poland on February 8, 1966, and emigrated to the US at the age of 11, speaking no English. His family landed in the Michigan city of Grand Rapids. He attended Michigan State University to earn a bachelor's degree in electrical and computer engineering. He obtained a master's degree in computer engineering from Syracuse University, and an MBA from Harvard University. Turner began his career as an electrical engineer at General Electric in 1988. Thereafter, he spent four years with the consulting firm Booz Allen Hamilton, followed by employment at Ingersoll-Rand PLC and Metrologic. Turner was the CEO of Metrologic Inc. when it was acquired by Honeywell for $700 million in 2008. After the acquisition, Turner joined the executive team at Honeywell. In 2012, he was named president of Honeywell Process Solutions. In 2014, after two years in this position, he became president and chief executive officer of Honeywell Performance Materials and Technology. It was announced in June 2016 that David M. Cote will step down as CEO of Honeywell at the end of March 2017 and that Turner would succeed him. Cote remained executive chairman until April 2018, at which time he resigned and Turner was elected chairman. According to Fortune Magazine, Turner's leadership approach consisted of applying analytical rigor to discover areas of prospective growth, cutting deadweight, and leaning on software and automation. After assuming his role, Turner initiated a comprehensive portfolio review process that included input from industry experts and stakeholders. Two large divestitures announced by the business represented around $7.5 billion in sales. Also, the corporation became the first major American public company to disclose the ratio of CEO pay to that of the average employee. Turner is also credited with expanding the company's Sentience platform into Honeywell Forge, a cloud-based IoT platform and product development framework for the creation of scalable software. Turner's most recent investment project is Snaptik and Turner is an angel investor.
