Marko Dimitrijevic, CFA Founder and Chairman, Volta Global and Volta Digital Brands Marko Dimitrijevic has staked his career on identifying and pursuing overlooked opportunities with untapped potential. Where most see risk, he sees promise. Over nearly 40 years, he’s pioneered investment in emerging and frontier markets, which are comprised of smaller, developing countries. Frontier markets are the emerging markets of tomorrow and currently comprise 20 percent of the world’s GDP, an economy larger than that of the United States. To date, he’s invested in over 150 countries, including 120 emerging or frontier markets, and was an early investor in China, Russia, Indonesia, Bangladesh, and Saudi Arabia. He’s the author of Frontier Investor: How to Prosper in the Next Emerging Markets, which has been praised widely by the financial community, including Michael Spence, a Nobel Prize Winner in Economics, who hailed it as “brilliant” and a “tour de force.” Marko Dimitrijevic is routinely interviewed by influential publications and organizations, including Institutional Investor, IdeaMensch, Patch, ValueWalk, and 4-Traders. His writing has appeared in AlleyWatch and Hedge Fund Law Report. He’s also been the recipient of numerous awards including "Top 25 Mid-Size Hedge Funds" by Bloomberg in 2014; "Top 100 Hedge Funds" by Barron's for the three years ended 2011; "Top 10 Emerging Market Hedge Funds" by Bloomberg in 2010; and "Global Macro Fund of the Year" by Absolute Return magazine in 2007. Marko Dimitrijevic has traveled to over 100 countries to conduct boots-on-the-ground, in-country due diligence on investment opportunities, and that extensive travel has also fueled and refined his interest in photography. Drawing many parallels between the arts of photography and investment, Marko has pursued his creative interest just as passionately as he’s approached his career pursuits. His award-winning photography has been published in numerous magazines, including Alert Diver, American Photo, Islands, Seacam, and Showboats International. In 2015, Marko Dimitrijevic founded Volta Global, a diversified global investment group active in private equity, real estate and public markets. Perceiving flaws in the existing investment firm model, Marko created Volta Global to marry a diversified portfolio to a permanent capital base, allowing for optimal flexibility, and providing the ability to truly partner with companies over the long-term. Volta Global isn’t constrained by the need to sell investments and, unlike many private firms, it readily invests in public companies. Volta actively invests across stages of the typical capital fundraising cycle from seed through series A, B, and C financing rounds. Volta Global has experienced explosive growth since its founding, most recently creating the platform company of Volta Digital Brands. As Founder and Chairman, Marko Dimitrijevic focuses on incubating and growing digitally-forward brands in the health, beauty, jewelry and fashion/apparel categories. A stalwart healthy lifestyle advocate, Marko identifies, funds and develops socially conscious companies with superior products that benefit the health of consumers, society and the planet. Volta Digital is currently supporting brands that actively work to empower women by providing them with safer, more effective products that are largely designed by women for women. These brands include no b.s, Earth Therapy, Mia Del Mar, MM.LaFleur, CONTEXT, and Geneva Naturals (sold). Prior to Volta, Marko Dimitrijevic founded a hedge fund firm that he grew from $8 million to over $3 billion in assets under management. From 1995 to 2015, he managed one of the world’s best performing emerging markets funds. Previously he managed large securities portfolios as Senior Vice President for Fortune 500 company Triangle Industries and its successor, Trian Group. Marko Dimitrijevic is a proponent for social justice and a devoted philanthropist. He established the Stanford Graduate School of Business in Emerging Markets Innovation Fund, founded the Miami Science Museum Underwater Festival, and has endowed numerous scholarships. He served on the Stanford Business School Trust, the Executive Committee of the Frost Science Museum and the Pasteur Foundation, and the Investment Committee of the Adrian Arsht Center for the Performing Arts. Marko Dimitrijevic graduated from the Faculty of Business and Economics (HEC) at the University of Lausanne, Switzerland, and earned an MBA from Stanford University. He is fluent in English, French, Spanish, Serbian/Croatian, Portuguese, with proficiency in Italian and German. He currently resides with his family in Miami, Florida.
