Claudio Descalzi is the current CEO of Eni, appointed in May 2014. Born 1955, he graduated at Milan University in 1979, before entering Eni in 1981. He firstly was Oil & Gas field petroleum engineer and, then, project manager for the North Sea, Congo and Nigeria areas’ development. In 1990 he became Italy’s Head of Reservoir and operating activities. Starting his path in Africa, he worked in Congo in 1994 as Managing Director of a local Eni’s subsidiary, while in 1998 he moved to Nigeria to work as Vice President and Managing Director of Eni’s subsidiary Naoc. Still on the international branch, between 2000 and 2001 he was Executive Vice President for Africa, China and Middle East, and between 2002 and 2005 Executive Vice President for Italy, Middle East and Africa. During those years, he also sat in several local Eni subsidiaries’ boards. In 2005, he was nominated Deputy Chief Operating Officer, in charge of Eni’s Exploration and Product Division, while between 2006 and 2014 he was appointed President of Assomineraria. Meanwhile, between 2008 and 2014, he received the nomination to Chief Operating Officer in Eni’s Exploration and Production Division and from 2010 to 2014 he was Chairman of Eni UK. In 2012, Claudio Descalzi received the “Charles F. Rand Memorial Gold Medal 2012” award: it was the first time that Society of Petroleum Engineers and American Institute of Mining Engineers awarded an European belonging to the Oil&Gas field. As institutional roles, he is Visiting Fellow at Oxford University, since December 2015 a member of the “Global Board of Advisors of the Council on Foreign Relations”, a member of Confindustria General Board and Advisory Board as well as “Fondazione Teatro alla Scala” Director. He is part of the National Petroleum Council for the year 2016/2017.
