Joanna Shields

Joanna Shields (Baroness Shields OBE) is a seasoned leader in the tech industry with over 30 years of experience. She has built and led some of the world's most prominent technology companies, with a focus on leveraging innovation to enhance connectivity and positively impact society. Joanna is now the CEO and Founder of Precognition, a company focused on harnessing cutting-edge technologies for transformative impact. Prior to this, she served as the CEO of BenevolentAI, where she led the development of advanced artificial intelligence and machine learning applications in healthcare, aimed at uncovering the causes of diseases and accelerating drug discovery. Before her work at BenevolentAI, Joanna held a distinguished career in public service, including roles as the UK's first Minister for Internet Safety and Security, Under Secretary of State, and Chair & CEO of TechCityUK. Her tech career includes leadership roles at global companies such as Google, Facebook, and RealNetworks. She is also the founder of WePROTECT.org, a global alliance focused on safeguarding children from online exploitation. Joanna remains active in several global initiatives, including the Council on Foreign Relations, the Transatlantic Commission on Election Integrity, and the Child Dignity Alliance. She also contributes to the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) and the Oxford Commission on AI & Good Governance. In recognition of her contributions, Joanna was appointed OBE in 2014 for services to the digital industry and youth welfare and was made a Life Peer of the House of Lords.
