Jose Maria Amusategui

José María Amusátegui is a Founding Partner of Cygnus Asset Management SGIIC SA, the first independent regulated firm approved in Spain to manage hedge funds. He has over 25 years experience in Consulting, Private Equity, Investment and Private Banking. Before joining Cygnus, José María worked for 14 years for UBS (1992-2006) in both the Investment Banking and Wealth Management divisions. Initially based in London and later in Madrid, he was involved in M&A, IPO’s, equity derivative structures while at Corporate Finance. During his years in the Wealth Management side of the business, he launched a Corporate Finance capacity dedicated to private clients (where he worked with Javier Torremocha for 5 years) as well as the Key Clients Group, covering the largest private clients in Spain. José María began his professional career in 1986 working for the consulting division of Arthur Andersen (now Accenture), gaining experience on information systems, programming and strategic management consulting. Later in 1988 he worked for Advent International, a private equity firm, generating deal flow, doing financial analysis and due diligence. He has a Law degree from Universidad Complutense in Madrid and an MBA from ESADE in Barcelona. He has also been designated as a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA).
