Andy Meikle is the Founder and CEO of tech start-up, Recast. Recast is a subscription-free live and on-demand streaming platform powered by microtransactions, that gives fans affordable access to the sports and entertainment they love, and pays content creators and rights holders for every view. Andy, a major sports fan whose own professional football career was cut short by injury, was frustrated by the fragmentation of sports broadcasting and how many subscriptions were needed just to watch sports. With many teams and sports struggling to monetise their rights or develop revenue streams on existing free-to-consumer content platforms, Andy identified an opportunity to create something fairer and more transparent, that could work for sports and also respond to the demands of the growing creator economy. Recast offers an innovative OTT solution that is free to use and allows rights holders and content creators to set up and run their own direct-to-consumer channel in minutes. The platform is currently available in over 90 countries, with more than 50 active channels, and a rapidly expanding roster of sports and entertainment publishers that includes Manchester City FC, Inter Milan and DJ and host of BBC1Xtra’s Sunday Breakfast Show, Cuppy. Prior to setting up Recast in 2018, Andy founded Sportlobster in 2011. A ground-breaking digital sports platform, Sportlobster provided fans with personalised access to stats, news, scores, and predictions, growing to millions of users and forging partnerships with major sports organisations and individuals, including Cristiano Ronaldo, the NBA and the NFL. Andy has been recognised by entrepreneur.com in the US, naming him as “one of Britain’s brightest entrepreneurs changing the start-up landscape” and was recognised in the Leaders Sports Awards 2021, Leaders Under 40 category. Recast is based in Edinburgh and has raised £15 million of investment to date.
