Sheldon Inwentash has spent more than three decades focused on small cap investing, with a long record of investment returns for his clients and companies. Sheldon Inwentash, B.COMM., CPA, CA., LL.D. (HON) is the founder, chairman and chief executive officer of ThreeD Capital Inc., which he created to focus on diverse investment opportunities, including disruptive technologies, small cap stock, junior resources, especially precious metals, and psychedelics. He launched ThreeD Capital after a 20-year tenure as CEO of Pinetree Capital Ltd., which he also founded. Pinetree Capital is a banking firm specializing in investment, finance advice and merchant banking. Inwentash’s investors and clients know him as an expert in early investments that result in sustained and growing value for shareholders. Of the hundreds of start-up companies Inwentash has invested in, many have had successful exits. At Pinetree, Inwentash invested in Queenston Mining, which was acquired by Osisko Mining Corp. for $550 million; Aurelian Resources, acquired by Kinross for $1.2 billion; and Gold Eagle Mines, acquired by Goldcorp for $1.5 billion. But Inwentash is an entrepreneur as well as an investor. He has founded three other companies in addition to ThreeD and Pinetree, and worked as CEO of nine businesses. He founded the first commercial pharmacogenomics company, Visible Genetics, in 1994, and eventually exited to Bayer in 2001. Inwentash has become well-known for updating the resource investment model. He provides additional assistance to his companies with counsel and often assumes a formal role as a board member. Sheldon Inwentash graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor’s of Communications degree. He later received an honorary Doctor of Law degree from the same university for his work as an entrepreneur and philanthropist. The Doctorate came after Inwentash gave a $15 million endowment to the university’s social work faculty. The donation was a tribute to his wife, Lynn Factor, who strongly supports social work and advocates for children’s welfare. In 2007, Inwentash was named an Ontario finalist for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award. In his free time, Inwentash is an avid art collector, especially of contemporary art.
