Mahipal Sachdev

On January 26, 2007, the Padma Shri award was given to Prof. Dr. Mahipal S. Sachdev (a Padma Shri Awardee), President of the All India Ophthalmological Society and Chairman and Medical Director of the Centre for Sight. He earned a professorship in ophthalmology in 2017. He is a well-known ophthalmic surgeon who is acknowledged both nationally and globally for his proficiency in the fields of corneal, refractive, and cataract surgery. He is generally recognized as having been a pioneer in India in popularising both the LASIK laser for the removal of spectacles and the phacoemulsification procedure for cataract surgery. At the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Professor Sachdev pursued his graduate and postgraduate medical education. Later, he became a faculty member at AIIMS. He began a fellowship in 1989 at Georgetown University in Washington, DC, to learn the most recent techniques in ophthalmology.
