During this period Gary has been investing in and advising numerous startup companies he believes he can contribute to. Gary is currently Chairman/CEO of Automatic having served for several years on their BoD before assuming his current role. Automatic is the platform for understanding the behavior of drivers and vehicles. They produce the popular consumer product Automatic Pro. They also have large enterprise integrations with a number of insurance carriers, fleet management and lot management companies. Gary currently sits on a number of Boards of Directors and Advisory Boards and recently co-founded Automat.ai which is currently in stealth. As Chief Creative Officer for Nuance Communications, Gary Clayton held a unique role that sat at the intersection of strategy, innovation and design. Spanning the mobile, healthcare, consumer and enterprise markets, Gary’s team interpreted technology trends through a design lens to create next-generation user experiences. While at Nuance, Gary was been instrumental in creating Nina (2013 USAA Strategic Supplier Innovation Award), Wintermute, DragonTV, Dragon Reader, Dragon Go (Time Magazine Best Apps of the Year) and Dragon Dictation for iPhone (Apple’s App Hall of Fame). Prior to joining Nuance, Gary was the Vice President of Speech Strategy for Yahoo! Working at The Brickhouse, Yahoo’s innovation center, he invented un-constricted speech-enabled web search. Launched in 2008, Yahoo! OneSearch with Voice changed the way users interacted with the web and helped accelerate the migration of search from desktop to mobile. Prior to Yahoo!, Gary was the Chief Creative Officer for Tellme Networks. There, he authored the company value proposition as it moved into the enterprise. Gary oversaw design and development of many applications including Tellme Search, winner of ID Magazine’s Interactive Design of the Year. Tellme was acquired by Microsoft in 2007. Prior to Tellme, Gary was the founder and president of Clayton Multimedia where he specialized in media production including film, albums, toys, TV and all manner of media. Marrying state-of-the-art technologies to new modes of media consumption, distribution and production, he found himself working with the most inventive artists and technologists of the day including Brian Eno, Michael Jackson, David Byrne and many others. Gary was the recipient of Axiem Awards, Telly Awards, Communicator Awards and Videographer Awards. Gary holds sixteen US patents and applications, is a Grammy Award nominee. His innovations have been acclaimed by a number of associations and journals including the Wall Street Journal Innovation Awards, Time Magazine and ID Magazine.
