As an entrepreneur himself, Chris Shumway understand the passion, vision and execution required to achieve sustainable growth. In 2001, he founded Shumway Capital, a global investment firm that grew from $70 million to over $9 billion in assets. Through 2011, while Shumway Capital managed external funds, the firm significantly outperformed the S&P 500, generating substantial investor profits with notable capital preservation during major market declines. He is part of the ownership group that purchased the Charlotte Hornets NBA team in August 2023. In 2011, Shumway Capital converted to a family office and re-oriented towards long-term investing. In addition to public investments, Mr. Shumway has overseen private investments across all stages of the business lifecycle, from incubation to late-stage growth investing. Shumway Capital prides itself on its operational and strategic advice to the management teams and boards of the companies in which it invests to enhance long-term value creation. He is on the board of Finch Therapeutics. Prior to founding Shumway Capital, Mr. Shumway worked at Tiger Management, where he became a Senior Managing Director and Management Committee Member at age 30. While at Tiger, he led the firm's investments in media, telecommunications and global macro. Mr. Shumway is a graduate of the University of Virginia and Harvard Business School.
