Over the course of his career in finance, Eric T. Landis has been responsible for hundreds of millions of dollars in assets. He has earned a reputation for outstanding knowledge in all aspects of the financing field, leveraging his talents for the benefit of companies around the world. Eric is an entrepreneur at heart, and knows what it takes to make a business successful. This entrepreneurial passion led him to establish Rivel Consulting LLC, a private equity and market analysis firm based in Charlottesville, Virginia. When he is not engaging in recapitalization and investment strategies, Eric can be found on the golf course or on the slopes. He also competes in triathlons, an extension of his collegiate athletic history. Undergraduate Education and Early Work Experience He attended Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. At Duke, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History in 1998. While at Duke, he competed as a member of the school’s Varsity swim team – earning the varsity distinction all four years of his undergraduate education. Eric gained a sizeable amount of experience in the financial field through summer and part-time work, including serving as a marketing representative in Sydney, Australia for a company called Comdisco Australia PTY LTD. As one of the largest information technology leasing firms in the world, Comdisco serves clients around the globe. Eric was responsible for developing market entry plans and structuring lease agreements between Comdisco and multinational corporations. In his first year of work, he helped the company earn over $40 million in revenue. While working at Comdisco, Eric explored new educational opportunities by attending the University of Sydney Graduate School of Management. Graduate Education and Continued Experience He also worked several summers as a financial consultant for Alpha International Management Group in New York City. At Alpha International, Eric quickly gained the respect of his team for his skill in evaluating emerging market opportunities. His detailed analyses of business operations and their finances allowed him to help facilitate joint venture agreements with numerous firms. He also conducted acquisition assessments for the company. These experiences kindled an interest in Eric to gain more education, and he was accepted to New York University. At the Leonard N. Stern School of Business at New York University in New York City, Eric went to work earning his MBA in Finance and International Business. His knowledge gained at Comdisco served him well in preparing him for the rigors of his graduate education; in fact, his work experience gave him an edge over many of his peers in the program. Eric earned his MBA in 1993. Work with Nationsbank In 1993, Landis joined the Nationsbank N.A. team in Atlanta, Georgia. His first role with the financial services firm was as a management associate; here, he was tasked with developing business relationships with middle-market corporations valued between $50 million and $250 million. In his first year, Eric was responsible for underwriting 65 financing transactions, helping numerous companies attain the capital needed for expansion into markets ranging from manufacturing to technology, medicine, and professional services. His largest project was with a nationally-known real estate developer; Eric was instrumental in preparing a complex $160 million syndication package between Nationsbank and the developer. Because of this achievement and his successes in all areas of his role, Eric caught the attention of his superiors, who saw in him a talented, cautious, and knowledgeable financial analyst. In 1994, Eric was promoted to the position of Senior Analyst, where he managed a team of 12 highly-experienced credit analysts. The team’s responsibility encompassed over $110 million in monthly deal flow, a significant portion of the company’s capital financing operation. He also served on a due diligence unit for the managed buyout of a software development company. During his time as a Senior Analyst, Eric was exposed to a number of tasks, including the structuring of capital transactions, analyzing pricing for financing packages, and formulating loan covenants with small- and mid-cap corporations. Launch of Rivel Consulting Armed with the knowledge and skills he had gained over the past decade, Landis was ready to forge his own path.
