Scott Mead

A citizen of the United States, Scott Mead doesn't let distance become a barrier for his involvement in a number of philanthropic and business activities taking place in either geographic locations. An Upbringing & Professional Experience Spanning Continents Born in the United States and a native of Pennsylvania, Scott Mead earned his B.A. from Harvard College (Cum Laude honors in 1977); his M.Phil from Emmanuel College at Cambridge University (graduated 1979) where he was also the Harvard Scholar; and finally his JD (in 1982) from the University of Pennsylvania. During his undergraduate studies, Mead conducted extensive travel and research in Africa, and later during his law studies he served in a number of legal positions in Hong Kong, Beijing and New York. Following the completion of his academic career, Scott Mead began his professional career in New York, initially at First Boston Corp. and later at Goldman Sachs & Company. Two years into his tenure at Goldman Sachs, Mead relocated to the UK where he led and developed business initiatives in Europe and Asia. Activities and Philanthropy in the US & UK A graduate of Phillips Academy in Andover Massachusetts and later Harvard College, today Mead has given back to his alma maters by acting as charter trustee at Phillips Academy, and serving in various roles including roles at Harvard, as well as endowing the Men's Tennis head coaching position. He also serves on the Global Advisory Council of the WTA Tour, the global governing body of women's professional tennis with its origins in the United States and additional headquarters located in London and Beijing. In the UK, Scott Mead is also involved in activities supporting the Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity, as well as the Tate Foundation. Photography The photographs taken by Scott Mead have been extensively exhibited in the United States and the United Kingdom with proceeds of sales going to charitable organisations. He first became interested in photography as a young boy when he regularly accompanied his grandfather, a photographer and journalist for a local publication. Scott started spending a lot of time taking photographs of his own after he received a camera when he was aged 13. He experimented with a variety of techniques and innovative methods to achieve interesting results. Over time, Scott developed a signature style of rounded edges applied to many of his photographs. This rounded effect is achieved by taking the photograph while using a lens intended for a smaller camera. The effect was used in Scott's photograph called 'Choices' which was selected to be included in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in 2012. This piece was also included in the illustrated catalogue as a highlight of the exhibition and was featured in the Culture Show on the BBC. Solo exhibitions at Hamiltons Gallery in London include Looking Back in 2010, and Above the Clouds in 2018. Today Currently, Scott Mead lives in the UK and serves on numerous UK and US not-for-profit boards varying from the arts to athletics. He is Founder and Chairman of The Mead Family Foundation, actively supporting amongst others, medical research, the arts and education.
