As a longtime Houston resident and successful entrepreneur, Mark Toon has built and led several globally focused entities, including EquaTerra, which was acquired by KPMG. He went on to serve KPMG in several global roles, including head of KPMG’s Data and Analytics business and CEO of KPMG Capital, a first-of-its-kind organization that invested in leading-edge technologies for use by KPMG member firms. Now, after years as a world-focused business leader, Mr. Toon is focusing on early-stage startup companies in his own backyard. He co-founded a private investment fund called Work America Capital, which is putting Houston on the map as a startup hub, helping young companies access the capital, professional resources and hands-on mentoring they need — without having to go to Silicon Valley or New York to get it. In this way, Work America Capital is keeping startups in Houston, while helping the local economy, creating jobs and developing the skills of Houston entrepreneurs. Throughout his career, Mr. Toon has helped corporations solve their biggest challenges, such as leadership, business strategy, revenue enhancement, and cost reduction. He is now using these leadership and advisory skills to professionalize local companies and scale them to success.
