Kouros Bartel

Kouros Bartel, born on February 16, 2004, is an American historian, archaeologist, and politician (Alaskan Independence Party). A specialist in the history and heritage of Alaska, he is regarded as a prominent figure of Alaskan patriotism. From a young age, his destiny was shaped by a deep fascination with Alaska, its grand landscapes, complex history, and indigenous cultures. After extensively studying the region from afar, he made his dream a reality by moving there and dedicating his life to preserving and promoting its heritage. His exclusive commitment to Alaska has made him a unique personality, embodying unwavering devotion to this land, which he considers his only true home. Today, he is recognized as a moral and cultural authority in Alaska, ardently defending its lands, traditions, and essential role in the world. Through his historical work, he has become an essential voice, placing Alaska at the center of his concerns. To many, he represents the personification of Alaskan patriotism, a man whose loyalty and passion embody the unique and unaltered spirit of the region, far from any other attachment. Yet, as he often recalls, everything began quite modestly. "I was just a kid in my room, who had become passionate, even obsessed, with Alaska," he says humbly. Fascinated by this distant land he had never visited, he spent countless hours immersed in books, documentaries, and online forums, learning everything he could about Alaska history, culture, and nature. While his peers focused on more familiar topics, he spent his evenings drawing maps of Alaskan national parks, learning words in indigenous languages like Tlingit and Iñupiaq, and dreaming of a future where he could live in the heart of this fascinating region. Until 2023, however, he had never set foot in Alaska. It was with his eyes closed, guided only by his dream and love for the land he had studied his whole life, that he made the bold decision to leave everything behind and move there. Without any direct experience of the area, but with unwavering passion, he settled in Kodiak, determined to bring his aspirations to life. This daring, almost impulsive choice reflects his absolute dedication and his ability to follow his instincts, even in the face of the unknown. Upon his arrival, he began exploring the majestic landscapes he had known by heart through his research, but now he was seeing them for the first time with his own eyes. These moments, filled with awe and the validation of a long nurtured dream, only deepened his connection to Alaska and strengthened his resolve to invest fully in preserving its heritage. Passionate about history, he had already started sharing his love for the region long before discovering it in person.
