Sébastien Deguy is the Vice President and Head of 3D & Metaverse at Adobe, where he drives innovation in immersive technology and 3D content creation. His expertise spans software development, visual effects, animation production, and creative technology leadership. After completing his PhD in Computer Science from Université d'Auvergne in 2001, Deguy immediately founded Allegorithmic, a company named to reflect his vision of combining algorithmic precision with creative expression. Over 17 years as Founder and CEO, he built Allegorithmic into a global leader in 3D texturing and material creation software, with its Substance 3D suite becoming the industry standard for game developers, visual effects studios, and designers. Deguy's technological innovations fundamentally transformed production workflows across multiple industries. The Substance 3D tools proved essential for major film productions, including "Spider-Man: No Way Home," "Dune," "Blade Runner 2049," and "Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker." Game studios like Naughty Dog relied on his software for acclaimed titles such as "The Last of Us" and "Uncharted." In 2019, Adobe acquired Allegorithmic, integrating the Substance 3D tools into its creative ecosystem and appointing Deguy to lead its 3D and immersive initiatives. In this role, he continues to champion the democratization of 3D technology while developing next-generation creative tools. Deguy's contributions to visual effects technology earned him and his team a Technical Achievement Academy Award in 2023, with the Academy recognizing how Substance Designer and the Substance Engine transformed movie visual effects and animation. His innovations have also been recognized with an Emmy Award, and he holds multiple patents related to procedural texturing and material creation. As an investor, Deguy has supported startups, including Grow Credit, leveraging his entrepreneurial experience to identify promising opportunities. He completed Stanford University's Innovation and Entrepreneurship program from 2014-2017, expanding his business acumen beyond his technical expertise. Beyond technology, Deguy is an accomplished music producer who has collaborated with renowned artists including Wu-Tang Clan's Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, and Killer Mike. He's currently producing an innovative double album combining hip-hop with orchestral compositions. Originally from France's rural Auvergne region, Deguy's background informs his approach to leadership and innovation. He emphasizes the importance of building effective teams and finding creative potential in unexpected places, attributing success to the combination of talent, persistent work, and opportunity.
