Jason Traff is the Co-Founder and President of Shipwell. He is a former Managing Partner for Bisonwood Financial Management, a Texas-based investment management and wealth advisory firm. At Bisonwood, Jason brings over a decade of experience in finance and technology to help clients plan and navigate their financial futures. Prior to Bisonwood, Jason took a leave of absence from MIT’s Sloan School of Management to start and runLeaky, an insurance technology startup backed by Y-Combinator. Leaky was the first impartial, nationwide auto insurance comparison site in the US, and it provided over $300 million of auto insurance quotes while receiving a cease-and-desist letter every few months up until its acquisition by Navion Insurance in 2013. Before Leaky, Jason worked in private equity at AIF Capital, an Asia-based private equity firm with nearly US$2 billion under management, where he focused on growth investments across Asia. While based in Hong Kong, Jason also co-founded and managed CopyCat Paintings, a global art reproduction company based in Shenzhen, China that employed over 1,000 artists, until its acquisition in 2009. Currently, Jason resides in Texas, where he is a mentor at Capital Factory and an active angel investor in nearly a dozen companies. He is a Board Member of the East Texas Crisis Center and also regularly guest lecturers at MIT, where he speaks on ‘Disruption in Regulated Industries.’
