As the chairman and CEO of Selby Lane LLC, David C. Burke draws on more than two decades of investment management experience with an emphasis on private equity and venture capital. At Selby Lane, he provides capital and expertise to asset management and investment firms, with a focus on helping them execute strategic growth initiatives as well as ownership and management transitions. Over the course of his career, David C. Burke has directed investments for a range of companies and foundations and has served on the boards of more than two dozen private equity and venture capital investments. Before joining Selby Lane, David C. Burke served as the CEO at Makena Capital Management, LLC, for six years. In addition, he served as the managing director and as a member of the board of directors. In 2005, he launched the investment management firm, and grew it to encompass $20 billion in assets under management. Previously, he oversaw venture capital and private equity investments on behalf of the Stanford Management Company and The Investment Fund for Foundations. In addition to these endeavors, David C. Burke has experience in the legal sector. He spent four years as an international capital markets attorney at Linklaters and the first two years of his career at Bingham McCutchen LLP. During this time, he held active membership with the California, New York, and DC Bar Associations. An alumnus and supporter of the University of Virginia (UVA), David C. Burke earned a juris doctor, master's degree in international relations, and a bachelor’s degree in finance from the institution. He wrote his master’s thesis on “The Dissolution of Yugoslavia” and served as the articles editor of the Virginia Journal of International Law. He is now a lecturer at the UVA McIntire School of Commerce and at the UVA School of Law and sponsors the Human Rights Clinic at the latter institution. At UVA, he is also the co-chair of the Law School Campaign and the vice-chair of the Honor the Future Capital Campaign.
