Joseph Raffa is a Partner at IBM Ventures and Director of Corporate Development, focusing on new company spinouts out of IBM Research. Prior to IBM, Raffa was a Venture Advisor at Paladin Capital, focused on the development and implementation of new investments in information technology, including datacenter infrastructure, security, computer and embedded systems, semiconductors and imaging. Prior to Paladin, Joe served as a Partner with Adams Capital Management, where he led the investment in AutoESL Technologies (acquired by Xilinx) and served as board member or observer for TimeSys, Inc., Intrinsity (acquired by Apple Computer), NextIO, QSpeed and Luminescent. Raffa is an experienced venture-funded startup CEO, serving as CEO of NuCORE Technology (acquired by MediaTEK), interim CEO of TimeSys and interim CEO of Sycon Design (acquired by Magma Design). Prior to his involvement with startups, Raffa served as Vice President and General Manager at Synopsys (SNPS), where he led the implementation of a six-year R&D alliance with IBM, and Director of Marketing for Hewlett-Packard’s $1 billion line of desktop computers.
