Mark deGroot

Mark de Groot, Ph.D. co-founded Virage Capital and serves as its Managing Director. Mark de Groot has extensive experience, domestically and internationally, in architecting both new private equity funds and innovative investment structures at company level, and thereafter securing capital for these. he served as the Chief Executive Officer of the venture capital fund iNovia Capital, which he founded in 2002. While working at a life sciences fund with $1 billion under management, he started and ran the first seed-stage life sciences VC fund in Canada, and has been instrumental in establishing a number of other investment funds. He has also worked extensively in the technology and life sciences sectors, in both large and small companies. He obtained his MSc from Trinity College, University of Toronto and a PhD in Physics from Oxford University, thereafter doing post-doctoral research at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton.
